An Organisational Capacity Assessment may be conducted to identify priorities for capacity building or measure change in organisational capacity over time. The assessment provides a general overview of organisational capacity, aim’s to identify organisational strengths and weaknesses, and helps ensure your organisation has the capacity to achieve its desired outcomes and impact. It helps you analyse your organisation’s abilities and needs to improve operations and performance.
We have developed our capacity building assessment tool by adapting and combining elements from both the Marguerite Casey Foundation Organisational Capacity tool and the (OCAT) Organiational Capacity tool.
The audit assesses your progress towards best practice in –
- Mission, Vision, Strategy & Planning
- Strategic Planning
- Operational Planning
- Stakeholder Relationships
- Outcomes and Impact
- External Environment
- Functional Effectiveness
- Program Implementation
- Structure and Policies
- Revenue and Costs
The process commences with an assessment of your current capacity and performance and a projection of how you would like to improve organisational. This helps to identify areas of capacity for assessment. Each section comprises 7-8 questions. All questions are rated on a 3 point semantic differential scale, seeking the participants assessment of the stage of development within your organisation –
- 1 = insufficient capacity to achieve goals
- 2 = minimal capacity needed to achieve goals
- 3 = adequate capacity to achieve goals
The aim of this audit is to start a conversation among your people. It is a straightforward audit which doesn’t take people long to complete, can be undertaken by individuals or groups of people creating a collective assessment.
Following assessment, all responses are collected and analysed for trends and feedback. A report is prepared showing results in both graphical and tabular form and all written comments as provided by participants.
A draft of the report is circulated to all participants, who then gather to discuss the collective feedback, prioritise future actions and prepare an action plan. This action plan is then incorporated into a final version of the report.
I am then available to remain engaged with your team, monitor implementation, provide coaching and mentoring and collect evidence of progress and success, if requested.*
*Ongoing engagement of this nature is not included in the audit fee. It is an extra cost which will be quoted upon request.
